FAQ
Common questions, answered plainly.
Five quick areas — pick whichever is on your mind.
How telehealth works, step by step
- Free 15-min consult. We talk briefly to see if we're the right fit. No commitment.
- Intake & first session. We schedule your first 50-minute session and send simple paperwork through our secure portal.
- Weekly or biweekly therapy. Steady, paced work focused on what matters to you.
- Reassess together. Every 6–8 weeks we check what's working and adjust the plan.
Getting started
How a first consult works and what to expect from your first few sessions.
Use the booking flow on this site or our contact form. We'll reach out within one business day to schedule a free 15-minute call. You don't share any health information at this step — just enough so we can find a time.
It's a short conversation with Sara — not a sales call. You share what's bringing you in, ask anything you're wondering about (fees, fit, languages, scheduling), and decide if you want to move forward. There's no pressure to commit on the call.
Your first session is 50 minutes and focuses on intake: your history, what you're hoping to work on, and what's gotten in the way before. We agree on a starting plan and a cadence (usually weekly or biweekly) before the session ends.
How telehealth works
Tech, privacy, and what you need on your end to make sessions feel easy.
All sessions are by secure video using a HIPAA-aligned platform. You'll receive a link before each session. You'll need a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with camera and microphone.
No. The session opens in your web browser when you click the link. We'll send a one-page setup guide before your first session so it feels like second nature.
It happens. We'll have a backup phone number on file and reconnect by phone if needed. You won't be charged for the time we lost.
Fees and insurance
How payment works and what to know about superbills, sliding scale, and surprise fees (we don't have any).
Bright Path is a private-pay practice. We provide a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Some sliding-scale spots may be available — ask during your free consult.
Standard 50-minute individual sessions are private-pay. Specific rates are shared during your consult so we can match you to the right fit, including any sliding-scale availability. There are no hidden fees, no charges for short messages, and no charge for the 15-minute consult itself.
A superbill is a detailed receipt with the codes your insurer needs to consider out-of-network reimbursement. Once a month we send one to your secure portal; you forward it to your insurer using their member portal or app. We can walk you through it on a session.
We ask for at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or reschedules. Inside that window the session is billed at the full rate. Real emergencies are handled case-by-case — life happens.
Languages, fit, and who we see
Whether we're a good match, what languages we offer, and how to know if Bright Path is right for you.
All sessions are available in English or Spanish, or fluidly switching between both. Sara is bilingual and bicultural.
Yes — adolescents 7 and older, with parental consent. We also offer family sessions when helpful. For younger children we'll refer you to a colleague who specializes in that age range.
Sara specializes in ADHD, anxiety, and trauma & PTSD with adults, teens, families, and veterans. If you're working through one of those and you live in Texas, we're probably a fit. If something else is the focus, the consult is the place to figure that out — and we'll refer you out if we're not the best match.
Yes. Sara Hernandez is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas (LPC #90879). We can only see clients physically located in Texas at the time of session.
Privacy, safety, and crisis
What we keep confidential, what we don't collect through this website, and what to do if you're in crisis right now.
Yes, with limited legal exceptions (imminent danger to self or others, abuse of a child or elder, or court order). We review confidentiality fully at intake.
No. The booking and contact tools on this site collect only enough information to schedule a call. Any clinical information is exchanged through our secure client portal after intake.
This site is not for emergencies. If you're in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), text HOME to 741741, or call 911. Veterans can press 1 after dialing 988.
A note on insurance & fees
Bright Path operates as a private-pay practice. We provide superbills you can submit to your insurer for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Sliding-scale spots may be available — ask during your consult.
